Current Zone Information: Coming soon…
The Durham MAD was formed in the year 1918. The reason it was formed was to fight off malaria because it was killing Durham residents at alarming rates. To this day that is the main reason the mosquito districts remain. We have many other diseases to worry about now but same goal is always there. Protect the people of our district the best we can.
The Durham district has one full time Manager plus 1 to 2 seasonal workers every year for surveillance and control measures. We also have a part time secretary to help out with all office work. There is a board of trustees that oversee the district as a whole to make sure things are running effectively and efficiently.
On the board there are 5 residents of the District. The board meets once a month on the 2nd Wednesday of every month at 7:30 at the Memorial Hall in Durham on the Midway. Our meetings our open to the public. The Durham MAD operates on year around basis. We typically do most of our surveillance and control work from around April 1st to mid-November. This is of course all weather related.
If you are a resident of our district you can call anytime and ask for spraying or report a source that you believe is producing mosquitos. Just call the district at (530) 345-2875. If no one answers just leave a message and we will get back to you. We are here to help you.
